Scalabrinian Lay Movement
(ad hoc
committee to be set up for celebrations June 1-3, 2001)
(efforts
to pursue setting up material to approach the archdiocese of Toronto)
(to be
organized for Sunday, November 4, 2001 at all Toronto parishes)
(lay members working with youth to
organize a celebration for all youth traveling to Canada from Scalabrinian
parishes around the world)
Most of our members are very
active in their parish.
Our group is quite vibrant
and many are familiar with Bishop Scalabrini and the work of the
Scalabrinians. This makes it easier for
us to discuss the plight of the migrant.
All of our members are immigrants or children of immigrants. Most members are schoolteachers; a number of
community/social workers and the odd capitalist or two. Ethnic groups
represented in the movement include Brazilian, Italian, Filipinos, Portuguese,
Latin Americans and the Carribeans.
We meet once a month and it serves our needs. Besides having members who are very active in other parish activities, our parishes are rather distant from one another and it would be difficult to meet more frequently.
